Across all 3 pieces of literature, "The Art of Resilience" by Hara Estroff Marano, "The Third and Final Continent" by Jhumpa Lahiri, and "The Other Wes Moore" by Wes Moore share a common theme: one's actions could alter the fate of another. Each fate that changed was unique to the story and the driving force behind the plot. The Author and his wife, Mala, experienced an arranged marriage; therefore, there was little time to bond with another. With Jhumpa in Cambridge, Massachusetts and Mala in Calcutta, India there was insufficient communication and therefore resulting in a fruitless relationship. Eventually, Jhumpa met Mrs. Croft, his landlady. Being one hundred three years old, her health was an immediate concern for Jhumpa. The text stated "...after she turned one hundred.
