Arthur Miller is considered one of the greatest American playwrights of the 20th century. Some of his best plays are; ‘All my Sons,’ ‘A view from the bridge,’ and ‘The Crucible.’ His Pulitzer Prize winning play was ‘Death of a Salesman.’ He is a well known Playwright maker and a famous man. He had won 12 awards and lived to be 89 years old. Arthur miller was born in Harlem, New York in 1915. He was born to an immigrant family of Polish and Jewish descent. It had woeful reviews. Then, he wrote a novel about anti-Semitism. His novel was called Focus. His next play was in 1947 and it was a hit. His 1947 play, All My Sons, ran for almost a full year on broadway. This earned him his first Tony Award for Best Author.
Mr.Miller built a small studio in Roxbury, Connecticut. In this studio he wrote Death of a Salesman in less than a day. It was directed by Eila Kazan. It opened on February 10th, 1949, at Morosco Theatre. It was adored by almost everyone and became an iconic stage work. This peace won Miller the highest accolades in theater world. The Pulitzer Prize, the New York Drama Critics’ Circle Award, and the Tony for best play were all won by Miller’s Death of a Salesman.
In 1956, The HUAC refused to renew Miller’s passport. He was called to appear before the committee. His 1953 The Crucible is allegory about McCarthyism. This is believed to be one of the reasons why Miller came under the Committee’s scrutiny. Miller did want to ‘out’ people who had been active in certain political activities as the committee demanded. Thus Cited to contempt
