In “To Kill A Mockingbird” Lee uses scout to show that “To understand someone’s perspective, you need to know their point of view”, this reveals that to know someone’s way of thinking and doing you need to view things in their point of view. Through Characterization Lee shows perspective of the kids towards Arthur Radley, Jem had said “Arthur Radley...dined on raw squirrels and any cats he could find..what teeth he had were yellow and rotten…(16).This was how Arthur Radley was introduced in the story. It was when “ Just standing on the porch was enough”(374). She understood that Arthur was not a mean, grumpy man as many said he was. also, got to see that Arthur Radley was not as scary as he seemed to be. Now she is able to know why he had been shut from everyone for many years, and know how he sees the world. scout then was able to figure out that assumptions that are made often are untrue. Jem is another person in the book perspective applies to. Scout doesn't quite understand why Jem is changing so much because she is still young and doesn’t quite get what is happening. ” He was difficult to live with...told me so many times to stop pestering him I consulted”(153). Atticus told her to be patient,she needed to understand that he was growing up and he started to see things differently. Then she got to understand that he was going through changes as he was growing up. Scout is still young and doesn’t get what the people around her perspective’s are. Atticus who is older and wise helps her understand what is going on. Then get’s to understand the point of view of Arthur Radley and Jem. she got to see who Arthur Radley was and understand his point of view, as well as to understand why jem was acting
