Summary: In Scotland, a 74-year-old man named Michael Anderson was able to compete and complete in a local triathlon for a charity event. The man has 4 grandchildren and was able to complete the Eyemouth Sprint Triathlon. This event consists of a 750m swim, 19.14 cycle, and a 4.66km run. If you don’t think the man was crazy enough, he completed this triathlon in 2 hours 21 minutes and 35 seconds. Not only was it an awesome accomplishment because he was super old, but also because he was both blind and deaf. Born with Usher Syndrome type two, he was born with moderate hearing loss and lost his sight in his teen years. What was cool about this article was the writer, Gavin Campbell, interviewed Anderson and tested for himself just how hard it is to complete a triathlon while blind and deaf. The reporter blindfolded himself and put on headphones and attempted to jog and bike. He claimed it was “deaf prison” because you basically have to give up your trust in your body’s direction and just keep going (Campbell). Since the triathlon, Anderson has also been successful in other physical activities. He was able to row 34 miles in a boating race and became the first blind deaf man to climb Ben Nevis( a mountain in the British Isles that is about 4500 feet high), just 18 months after breaking his thigh bone.
