Many people would say that the Articles of Confederation is a disaster. I agree that the Articles of Confederation is a failure and needs to be revised or replaced completely. These 13 colonies are more like 13 different countries. Every state has their own currency. The Government currently has very limited power over the states. The country has no national defense and no money. The constitution has many progressive concepts that could change the future of the United States. One reason that anti-federalists oppose ratifying the constitution is because they feel like the constitution gives too much power to the congress. Anti-federalists believe that giving too much power to the government would result in something similar to British monarchy. At this time, every state has their own currency. Article 1, Section 8, Clause 5 of the constitution allows Congress, “to coin Money, regulate the Value thereof, and of foreign Coin, and fix the Standard of Weights and Measures.” The constitution will allow congress to issue American currency that can be accepted by all of the states. The congress is comprised of 13 members to represent each state. For a new law to be passed, it needs nine of the 13 votes. An amendment needs all 13 votes to be passed. This is inefficient. Article 5 of the constitution proposes that instead of a unanimous vote, amendments can be passed with 2/3 of the congress. Federalist No. 58 states that there will be one representative in the house per thirty thousand inhabitants. Every state will have at least one representative.
