Art has always been a part of people’s lives. It provides a creative outlet, and provides us with beauty. It influences our culture, society and even our economy. There are many benefits to teaching art in California schools, and there are specific components needed for a quality California arts program.
Art’s Historical Influence on California Culture, Society, and Economy
Artists first began moving to California during the Gold Rush with San Francisco being the center of cultural life. The artists there not only created art, they also became part of history. Many citizens of San Francisco, rich from the profits of the Gold Rush, wanted to bring culture to their town. A great demand for formal portraits arose.
