INTRODUCTION
Ever noticed why Black Friday shoppers are attracted to certain clothes? Everyone views his or her style of clothing differently. Meaning, individuals are attracted to different kinds of clothes. For example, one might like bright-colored clothes or someone else might like light-colored clothes. Whether or not it is noticed, there are reasons behind what a consumer buys and why they choose to buy the product.

Companies have made their clothes look better to draw in more customers. Multiple studies have been shown to prove that consumers pay more attention to the brand more than anything else. The question remains, what exactly happens to the “obsolete” clothes that people no longer want? Once a company releases a new type of clothing, the previous clothing becomes old. Most of the clothing that is already old, people won’t wear it anymore and it most of the time won’t sell, therefore this causes loss of money (Dardis). Also, when a company makes a improved product, it uses up resources that shouldn’t be used up. Nothing is wrong with making new products, but the amount of resources used should be monitored. When new items are released, most of the old products are thrown away, therefore the amount of clothing in landfills or anything like that, rises dramatically (Dardis). A study proved that gender plays a major reason as to why consumers buy what consumers buy. Each gender likes something different, therefore the reason they want it is different. Not only does gender play a huge part in consumerism, but so does many other reasons. Psychologists have found a new study that proves personality, no matter the gender, can affect what a consumer buys. A consumer’s characteristics can affect the purchasing process as well (Koca). The most overlooked reason for consumerism is most likely personality.
