The role of parents in a child’s life is an irreplaceable one. Children are shaped by what they see their parents do and how they see them act. Children can choose to pattern themselves after what they see their parents do or they can choose to avoid being like their parents. In the story ‘Ashes’ by Susan Beth Pfeffer, Recent research shows, fathers affect the lives of their young adult daughters in intriguing and occasionally surprising ways. Ashes’ father can be mostly described as a good parent.
Ashes Common Assessment “Never put your child in a place to where they have to pick which parent to love.” Don’t ever do this because it puts your child in very hard situation. They might think that if they do something for one parent the other parent might get mad at them. It’s just like this story “Ashes.” Ashleigh took the money because her dad isn’t very wealthy and he needed the money, she’s closer to her dad then her mother, she felt sorry for her dad.
In preparation for this paper I chose to read Fire in the ashes: twenty five years among the poorest children in America by Jonathan Kozol. In this book Kozol has followed these children and their family’s lives for the past twenty five years. In his writing Kozol portrays a point of view most from his background and standing would not be capable of having. He portrays what life is like for those who have been let down by the system that was meant to protect them. Kozols writing style can be very blunt at times, not for shock value, but for the sake of portraying these children’s realities, and not sugarcoating the inequalities that they are faced with.

This is the set of Sue Monk Kidd’s novel, The Secret Life of Bees in which Lily Owens, the protagonist, shows the reader a series of emotions throughout a fascinating plot. The novel is based on the story of a fourteen year old girl who, as a child, was guilty for her mother’s death. Lily’s life has been a constant nightmare ever since because of her father’s cruelty, therefore she decides to escape to Tiburon, SC and learn the truth about her mother’s past.
On page 3 Ash Barty comes home with a digeridoo and shows her dad. Thinking that she would get a good response but instead she got the opposite. Her dad said that she cannot play it because she is not a man. This shows us that Ash Bary does not know all the rules of the ‘mob’ and is still learning all the rules.
In the story “13 and a half “by rachel vail the main character is invited to go to ashley house. The Main character at that time doesn’t know ashley as much. There only connection was sitting next to each other in math class. Unlikely as it is the main character still said yes to her invitation. In the beginning of the story the main character perspective on ashley was pompous and selfish but later towards the end of the story she believed that ashley is also humble and thankful .
Some of the undeserved punishments Sula and Nel are facing together, for example, the attacks from a group of Irish boys who are harassing African American school children in Medallion. These attacks make the girls aware of their uneasy position in the society but Sula and Nel need to learn how to protect themselves on their own. Sula and Nel are scared of the Irish boys and try to avoid them on their way from school until one day when Sula and Nel decide to take the shorter route home although they are aware of the fact that they might meet the harassing boys, which they eventually do. Sula takes the lead in this scene and protects herself and
Shiftlet tries once more to redeem himself by attempting another good deed. Along the road, he picks up a young, hitchhiking boy who ran away from home. Mr. Shiftlet knows the little boy’s decision is one that he will most likely regret in the future, so he tries to convince the boy to go back home to his mother. He consoles the boy and tells him that his mother is the second best mother in the world, and that there’s nothing sweeter in the world than a mother. But unlike the Crater’s, this little boy is not fooled by Mr. Shiftlet’s false kindness.
Van Gogh painted “Skull of a skeleton with a burning cigarette” in 1886, while still studying art. It is highly likely that the skeleton was painted while he was studying anatomy at the royal academy of fine arts. The painting itself is bold, displaying a slightly turned head and shoulders of a rather earthily coloured skeleton, gripping between its teeth what appears to be a burning cigarette. In stark contrast to the bright skeleton is the very dark background which is relatively plain, perhaps painted this way in order to make the skeleton the main article.
