The column dimensions were 10 in. in the north-south direction (denoted as y-direction on the confined concrete column cross-section) and 15 in. in the east-west direction (denoted as x-direction on the confined concrete column cross-section). A concrete cover of 0.75 in. was used on all sides of the confined concrete column. Eight ASTM A706 Grade 60 #7 deformed steel bars were used for the longitudinal mild steel reinforcement bars inside the confined concrete of the column.
Introduction The purpose of this report is to summarize what our team, the Fig Neutrons, did for the final project of ECE160. For the project we used an Arduino Sparkfun Kit to build a Simon says game with multiple game modes that would display several different game statistics on an LCD screen. The work the team has done includes Charlieplexing LEDs and including code for implementing the LEDs, writing code for a reverse Simon game. We also had to make the game play a different song than the one provided, and write code for the LCD to display wins, losses, game length, and the number of games played.
From the start of the story, Susan Pfeffer tries to make it very obvious that Ashes looks up to her father. Ashes’s father makes her always feel better and more free than she feels with her mother. “That winter, it felt like every time that I saw my father, the sun cast off just a little more warmth than
Ashes Common Assessment “Never put your child in a place to where they have to pick which parent to love.” Don’t ever do this because it puts your child in very hard situation. They might think that if they do something for one parent the other parent might get mad at them. It’s just like this story “Ashes.” Ashleigh took the money because her dad isn’t very wealthy and he needed the money, she’s closer to her dad then her mother, she felt sorry for her dad.
In Mary Oliver’s, The Black Walnut Tree, she exhibits a figurative and literal understanding on the importance of family and its history. The poem is showing that your emotional value is what’s more important than your physical value (money). By using symbolism and imagery the poet illustrates an intricate relationship between the “Black Walnut Tree” to the mother and daughter being both rooted deeply in the earth and past trying to reach for the sun and the fruit it will bring. Symbolism constitutes the allusion that the tree is the family both old and new. Imagery portrays the image that the tree and family are connected by similar trails and burdens.
In the novel ‘How to Bee’, written by Bren MacDibble, there is a hierarchy among people based on their social status. The novel focuses mainly on the differences between the city and the country. The hierarchy takes its toll on ‘Peony’ (MacDibble 2017, p. 1), the narrator, when she is forced to leave her farm for the city and work for the ‘Urbs’ (MacDibble 2017, p. 28). The place where you reside in How to Bee (MacDibble, 2017) determines your place in the hierarchy. Peony describes the homeless as ‘raggy people’ (MacDibble 2017, p. 55).
In preparation for this paper I chose to read Fire in the ashes: twenty five years among the poorest children in America by Jonathan Kozol. In this book Kozol has followed these children and their family’s lives for the past twenty five years. In his writing Kozol portrays a point of view most from his background and standing would not be capable of having. He portrays what life is like for those who have been let down by the system that was meant to protect them. Kozols writing style can be very blunt at times, not for shock value, but for the sake of portraying these children’s realities, and not sugarcoating the inequalities that they are faced with.
When you Know it Have you ever had to make a decision where no matter what you do, it’s still going to end badly? Susan Beth Pfeffer, the author of “Life as we Knew it,” has left an incredible cliffhanger. In “Ashes,” Ashleigh has to steal from her mom to help her dad. Her other option, which is to not steal, which will help her mom, but her dad will get in even more trouble than he already is. In the end though, Ashleigh chooses to help her dad because he spends the most time with her, he’s having Ashleigh steal to help the mom, and she looks up to him.
One of the reasons why Ashes took the $200 was because she loved her dad more. In the article it said, “and I realized he still called me Ashes, where mom couldn’t hear him to be annoyed. And that made me feel special all over again. Mom might never be caught without batteries or tissues, but she just called me Ashleigh - a name she didn’t even like and never promised me anything.”
Ashes took the money because she would do anything to help her father, even to the point of theft. Ashes had to make the toughest decision to help her father or spare her mother. She helped her
Not all people whose English as a second language speak it in the same way. This argument made by Amy Tan in the story “Mother Tongue”. In the essay, she successfully uses all three of rhetorical styles such as logos, ethos, and pathos. Tan also balances each part of the rhetorical triangle very effective and thoughtful essay. First of all, the author uses logos and reasoning in her essay.
(Pfeffer 3) Ashleigh’s dad claims that it’s just a setback from his easy street and once he gets the money from Ashleigh, all will be easy. Ashleigh feels like he’ll never get that easy path if she doesn’t give him the money. “‘I love you so much,’ he said “you’re ten thousand times better than I deserve Ashes.’” (Pfeffer 3) Her dad says he doesn’t deserve such a wonderful daughter and Ashleigh has to live up to that for it to be
“And I realized he still called me Ashes where my Mom couldn't hear him to be annoyed”-pg 1.This shows Ashleigh that her dad loves her that he doesn't care how people look at her nickname it

Ashes’ father is basically implying that he made a bet with someone and he has not paid them back. Typically when that happens, you are probably in trouble. Not only is Ashes’ dad putting her in trouble, he is lying to her face about it in the first
