In the first paper I shared little bit about myself as I am Vietnamese girl and I am an immigrant to American with my family and how I met a lot of difficult things when I moved to American. So, in this final paper I want expand to what I learned in Asian American studies class. Before I registered for this class I heard that this class is very interesting and then, I met Sayumi Instructor in my English class at that time she was my English teacher’s guest speaker and I heard she related about her story and why she wanted to teach Asian American studies. But I learned it is not simple at this legal procedure that it concerns many outside elements as education, language, new culture and new environment. And want to determine become an American is not easy. We knew America is strong country at all of aspects and “freedom” is first thing made us who immigrant to regardless to move in US, plus super strong economic development is second reasons that we wish to find America dream. I usually agree that freedom is really necessary in life; There are some Asian country include Vietnam has a difficult culture, do not have freedom of speech and weak government to made economic are poor. I came from Vietnam where we do not have freedom of speech so, I understand how we do not have freedom include speech and religion; that is why Asian people want to fine new hope to build their life. In my thinking, the truth is not same a dream, and there are not the dream is beautiful forever; in some statistic, we see Asian American have higher suicidal than white people (guest speaker, 2014) this is reason of stressor. I understand this problem is very badly but it looks like culture deep absorb in Asian people because they do not want have despise from other races. Again, I want to determine the discrimination is crime we can see it by action and attitude relate to skin color in society. For example, Patsy Takemoto Mink told that when she was a student and went to school but all most of white people usually refuse to help her, they readied to say “I cannot help you”. Or on the road, we would “colored” board (Patsy Takemoto Mink video, 2014) to showed that this place is for Asian people in US, and if Asian American did not see this board they could not enter that place. I think this is serious hurtfulness in civil right; and I am very support to fight racism in social. And when I read some articles I really pay attention to model minority status article because it helps me to understand why Asian American is model minority. In fact, model minority is not truth but other races usually think the Asian student is student model and they are usually smart in math or Asian can success are easy because they think Asian American are overcome discrimination. But I think Asian American do not really overcame the model minority.
