Imagine this: you are living in a discriminatory world full of people who do not understand you, and choose to judge you by your differences instead of getting to know you. If you are even the slightest bit different. The slightest distance from ordinary, you are judged. You do not get to fight for them to know you, because as soon as they place stereotypes on you. They decide who you are supposed to be.
Stereotyping disables people Nobody should assume how is the life of disabled people without knowing what they have been through nor should people believe on what they see. “When people rely on surface appearances and false racial stereotypes, rather than in-depth knowledge of others at the level of the heart, mind and spirit, their ability to access and understand people accurately are compromised” (James A. Forbes). According to the Longman dictionary, a stereotype is a belief or idea of what a particular type of person is like. The majority of human beings like to judge and assume when it comes to people with disabilities. Societies base their judgments on people incapacities or because some people don’t know how to treat disabled people.
Over the span of hundreds of years these stereotypes have developed and now help define groups of people. A stereotype is not necessarily a true statement or it may not describe every person in a race but due to popular belief it has become this way. Some people tend to believe that stereotypes are correct and they judge races according to them. When a person is asked to describe someone from a specific race, they will most likely state multiple stereotypes that for most are not even true. This becomes the reason for most racial profiling and increases the barrier between people.

The reason being, stereotypes. A stereotype is a specific image or idea about a particular person or group. Psychology today discusses “ In their explicit use, stereotypes serve as a set of clear and open biased beliefs that people consciously use as part of their thoughts, decisions and social actions.” People think of stereotypes without even knowing that they may be stereotyping a certain person or group of people because it has become a natural thing. The question that is left unanswered is if people were aware that they are stereotyping unconsciously would they change the way in which they thought.
We don’t realize that we stereotype others based on their physical appearances and we act very racial towards others, it just comes natural. I believe that humans should take the time to reevaluate their actions when it comes to racial thoughts and prejudice attitudes. Everybody is different. Not everyone has the same beliefs and morals therefore everyone will behave differently. Stereotypes often lead to negative actions, but we have no control.
Everyone should be treated equally right? Well it has not always been like that. The Holocaust is an example of inequality, the Nazis killed the Jews because they were not as ethnicaly “supperior”. All races and ethnicities should be treated equally and shown the same respect as anyone else. No matter if their different or exactly the same.
American society needs to change the way they see people and their race differently. These stereotypes have been going on in America for many years and it looks like they will never disappear unless we work together to have a better America.
Racial stereotypes are one of the biggest problems American of all ethnicities face. With social networking and exceptional new coverage just about everything is covered pertaining to social problems is always in some form racially motivated stemming from a racial stereotype. Ranging from police shootings, violent encounters between citizens and transgender confusion. Unfortunately, all caused by the same problem. In essence, a way of life most might say all over the world.
People treat others unequally for being different in anyway. If someone does not act the way we believe they should, live the way we think they should, or like the people we think they should, we start to judge them. Even if we have not met them yet, we sometimes judge them based on their appearance. Sometimes nobody stands up for those who are judged for their differences. It is clear, even to this day, that caucasian men and women typically have higher paying jobs and make more than their coworkers of other races. Society should know by now that everyone doing the same job, should get payed the same no matter if they’re a man, woman, white or hispanic. Lastly, there are many examples of how maintaining stereotypes is hurtful to those who are judged accordingly. A large one in our society is the racism against Muslims. People assume the worst of them because ‘they cause so many terrorist attacks’, however, that isn’t true.
In addition, many people don’t expect Asians to be able to understand English at all; simply because they are Asian, they are viewed as foreigners who don’t understand the language. When an Asian worker met a customer he conversed with over the phone, the customer will exclaim, “‘I didn't realize you were Asian.’... and on the other side when I met them what I really want to say was, ‘Oh, I couldn't tell you were black over the phone either’” (Tuan 113). Many people in America wrongfully make assumptions about people just by the way they speak.
Identity of oneself is different than the identity that other may see. I wish to see in the hope near future that labels are not used for means of discrimination but as a way of to accept the different types of people. What need to happen to accomplish this is acception. We need to acknowledge the facts. No need for pointing fingers at each other when no action is being done.
