Astronomy: The Discovery of Uranus by Herschel I chose: Astronomy: The Discovery of Uranus by Hershcel in 1781. I was amazed how a musician, working with crude 7 foot reflecting telescope, and micrometer could find a planet in the wide expanse of space in the year 1780. In the scholarly report: Uranus and the Establishment of Herschel’s Astronomy; the author describes the process that was fastidiously executed, documented, and reported to the scientific community by Herschel.
