Athletes and Concussions
Concussions for any athlete can be extremely dangerous. Adults in big leagues are fearful of what a concussion can do because of the lingering damage, so there's no real reason why children athletes should have to experience one epically with a short recovery time. Per meant brain damage can occur in young adults due to a blow to the neck or head during sports such as soccer and football which can leave long lasting effects. A lot of coaches believe that they should be put back onto the field as soon as possible, but should a child have to choose a sport over their future and health in the future or present? Some teenagers require a longer period of time to recover from a concussion due to the way that their bodies are, and even their gender is a factor to this. More time is necessary for different athletes, so their needs can be fulfilled. Referencing to document four, to support the idea is that it mentions that, female athletes are more susceptible to a concussion. In the article it mentions that "head and neck size and musculature; researchers speculate that girls have smaller, weaker necks than boys making their heads more susceptible to trauma." Being that a female is already weak to one wouldn't it be dangerous if that female suffered from two? It's easy to receive one concussion as a female so it's just as easy to receive a second one that's more consequential if the player is put back on the field too quickly. Referring to document three it is mentioned, "if an athlete sustains a second concussion during this period, the risk of permanent brain injury increases significantly and the consequences of seemingly mild second concussion can be very serve and even result in death." This is proof that it is very risky to not provide enough time for a young female athlete or a lankier built male player.
