The University of Tennessee System said that previous research shows that between “14% and 32% of competitive athletes have to retire because of a career-ending injury." (Loberg #14) This statistic shows us that contact sports are not worth the risk. Contact sports are not worth the risk for many reasons, many people are concussed because of it every year and many careers are also ended because of contact sports like Football. It is usual for everyone to get hurt and hit in the game, and some hits can be very lethal, many have killed many professional players. According to the text, “Boys playing football suffered the most concussions, at 10.2 concussions per every 10,000 practices and games. Girls’ soccer was a close second at a rate of 8.4 per 10,000. Boys’ soccer, by contrast, had a much lower rate of 3.5 concussions per 10,000 games and practices.”(Voo #3) This quote shows us that even sports that don’t involve contact can still result in concussions.
