On August 6, 1945 the history recorded the first use of the atomic bomb. The United States was the first country to use the atomic bomb in warfare. The first atomic bomb the United States dropped was on Hiroshima and three days later another one was dropped on Nagasaki. Dropping the atomic bombs on the Japanese cities was considered one of the biggest catastrophic incidents in history, because they didn't just destroy the two cities or killed civilians, but their resulted radiation caused a great harm on the coming generations later on. The first option was making peace and not utilizing the atomic bomb, keeping the Japanese emperor and removing obstacles to Japan's surrender. This option would achieve peace through a flexible, practical policy which will bolster U.S. authority and leadership in the postwar world and it would produce a speedy end to the war and save thousands of American lives and keeping the Japanese emperor would strengthen the hand of the moderates in Japan who wish to end the war and weaken the position of militarist officials, also reaching surrender terms with Japan will keep the Soviet Union from advancing any further in East Asia and would prevent it from demanding anymore territories. The second option was showing the bomb’s power through demonstration. Demonstrating the power of the atomic bomb will save the lives of thousands of American troops without lowering the American international stature, it would also fulfill the unconditional surrender of Japan but with avoiding the slaughter of innocent civilians and with less numbers of victims. Through a demonstration of the atomic bomb, the Soviets will be compelled to back away from their efforts to expand their influence in Europe.The third option was dropping the atomic bombs on the Japanese cities. The destruction of a Japanese city caused by an atomic bomb will impress the Soviets with America’s power and compel them to soften their position on the future of Eastern Europe, and conclude the war without their involvement in East Asia because if the Soviets get involved they would demand territories.
