Attendance and Punctuality Outstanding attendance is an essential function for all employees. It shows the employers that the staff member is a hard-working, dedicated, and a reliable worker. Setting a great attendance record will look good to the current employer and to any future employers when looking for a new job. If an employee were to not show up for a shift, it will interrupt others entire work day. In most companies, everyone is set to their own job. When an individual doesn’t show up to work or have someone cover their shift, someone who is already working will have to cover that shift as well. It is important to show other members of that company that the position they hold means a lot to them and that they want to keep it. Someone who doesn’t show up and is late will show that they are undependable and careless. Having a bad reputation in a workplace will decrease the chances of getting a better job in the future, and will not provide a good recommendation from the company. It happens to almost every worker, but if it happens to often it will start to make them look like an undependable worker. If the absence is for a long period of time it should be discussed with a supervisor or manager immediately after being notified that an absence of leave is needed. “The next steps to avoid absenteeism is to have a thorough policy that an employee must observe to and have knowledge of consequences that will occur if the problem happens again” (Bartleby 2013). The company should look into frequent absences, and figure out the root of the problem so they can work on improving the situation. In some cases, it is a widespread problem among the company.
