Schools are obliged to operate under current legislation which means that they have to work in a particular manner and draw upon particular policies, procedures and other documentation. Some essential pieces of legislation that affect work within schools and that are mentioned within other units are the:-
• Data Protection Act 1998
• UN Convention on Rights of the Child 1989
Education Act 2002
• Children Act 2004
• Childcare Act 2006
• Freedom of Information Act 2000
• Human Rights Act 1998
• Special Educational Needs (SEN) Code of Practice 2001 and Disability Discrimination Act 1995/2005

My setting has a Health and Safety Policy a copy of which is annexed hereto and which provides “The Health and Safely at Work Act 1974 (HSW Act 1974) places duties on employers to safeguard, so far as is reasonably practicable, the health, safety and welfare of their employees and the health and safety of persons not employed but who may be affected by work activities, such as pupils and visitors.” Washingwell Community Primary School Health and Safety Policy February …show more content…

Again this list is not exhaustive. My setting also has a charging and remissions policy which provides that all education during school hours is free. They do not charge for any activity undertaken as part of the National Curriculum with the exception of individual or group music tuition. With regard to charging, they follow the guidance set out on the DfE Charging for School Activities document dated October 2014. My setting also has a complaints policy which sets out the procedure in which complaints should be dealt with by parents and who they should be directed to in varying circumstances and subject matter.

My settings attendance and punctuality policy provides that the whole school attendance target is 97%. It provides that regular and punctual school attendance is important. Pupils need to attend school regularly if they are to take full advantage of the educational opportunities available to them by law. Washingwell Community Primary School fully recognises its responsibilities to ensure pupils are in school and on time, therefore having access to learning for the maximum number of days and
