Heroes are not invincible, and certainly are not the ones who always win; however, a hero is someone who, despite this, is courageous enough to fight for what is right. Atticus Finch, one of the most inspiring literary characters from the highly acclaimed novel, To Kill a Mockingbird, written by Harper Lee, is an example of such. This classic novel is told from the perspective of Scout Finch, Atticus’ daughter, a young girl who lives in the town of Maycomb County, Alabama, in the 1930s, a town where prejudice and discrimination is rife. Rather than succumbing to societal expectations and adopting the extreme animosity held by the other citizens, Atticus views and treats all with the dignity and respect that they are entitled to, guiding his
“Colorful demonstrations and weekend marches are vital but alone are not powerful enough to stop wars. Wars will be stopped only when soldiers refuse to fight, when workers refuse to load weapons onto ships and aircraft, when people boycott the economic outposts of Empire that are strung across the globe.” (Arundhati Roy) This quote shows social justice with bravery and kindness like how harper showed social justice through Attius. In To Kill a Mockingbird Harper Lee uses the character of Atticus to reveal her ideas about social justice.
Catherine Pulsifer, an inspirational book author, once said, “Your character defines who you are by the actions you take.” In other words, your actions will always speak louder than any words you speak. Honorable actions are what build an honorable character, which is what can be said for Atticus Finch, a character from the novel To Kill a Mockingbird. Atticus Finch was a righteous and honorable man who displayed many of Kamehameha Schools’ E Ola! Learner Outcomes, used to shape students into culturally, strong servant leaders.
Is leading by example worth your children’s lives? Atticus Finch, from Harper Lee’s To Kill a Mockingbird, thinks so. In the novel, Atticus, the father of Scout and Jem Finch, is chosen to defend Tom Robinson, a black man accused of rape by a young white woman named Mayella Ewell. Most of Atticus’s friends and neighbors believe Atticus should just go through the motions and let Tom be wrongfully convicted, as they live in the horribly racist town of Maycomb, Alabama in the 1930’s.
Atticus let the kids learn from their mistakes and one of my favorite instances is when Jem, Dill, and Scout to through barbed wire and try to get a peek at Boo Radley (Arthur Radley). It starts out by them coming to a squeaky gate they got scared it would alarm someone so Jem tells Dill and Scout to spit on it and they did. They tried to look through a wind but they couldn’t see anything so they went to the back porch and Jem went up and as he did the boards squeaked but he still continued to the window, while he was trying to look inside a crisp dark shadow is what Scout and Dill saw, all of a sudden Jem sees it too and they all start running and as they do they hear a gun shot and run even faster, Jem holds the wire for scout and Dill but
Atticus is a good father because he teaches his kids valuable lessons and serves as a role model for them. Atticus is a good father by teaching valuable lessons to his children such as telling them to not get anything into their heads. One lesson Atticus occasionally tells Scout is to “keep your head up” and do not let nonsense bother you. Atticus tells Scout “You just hold your head high and keep those fists down.
Every day in our lives, heroes are all around us. They may not be what society tells us is a hero, like Superman or Batman. They do not wear fancy costumes or have super powers. But these heroes change the lives of the people around them, for the better. Atticus Finch from To Kill a Mockingbird is the charismatic, understanding father of Scout and Jem Finch as well as a hard working lawyer in Maycomb County, Alabama.
Moral heroes serve a very important role in society as we know it today, influencing others and shifting the common viewpoints we have. Moral heroes help people stay motivated as some people hold up others as their idols and aspire to be like them. These people, moral heroes, are heavily needed in our world today. In To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee, Atticus Finch is created as a moral hero that inspires everyone around him.
Sometimes people don’t realize how much their decisions and choices can effect others around them. Parenting is one of these such cases. The thought of having to raise children is loved by many people, but it is often a feared reality. Many people don’t see themselves as being capable of being a parent, even though they are very capable of being a good parent. Some of the best examples of good parenting fall into the book To Kill a Mockingbird.
The apple doesn’t fall far from the tree. This saying is true in many cases and happens to be true in To Kill A Mockingbird. Throughout the book you see children of characters start to grow up and act like their father. This essay will be looking at three families in To Kill A Mockingbird, the Finches, the Cunninghams, and the Ewells. These three families are key examples that a father’s influence has a significant influence on the character of his children.
Atticus Finch is portrayed as great parent in the novel To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee. The way Atticus Finch acts at home and on the streets provide a good role model for Jem and Scout. He is a parent who always does the right thing and stays true to himself and to his children at all times. Atticus is a positive role model for his children because he is the same character wherever he goes and whoever he talks to. When Scout misinterprets Miss Maudie’s words she attempts to defend his father about how he does not do anything at home different than what he would do at work.
As a Civil Rights activist, I strive for equal rights for all races, all religions, all genders, and all people. I try to get my opinions and messages across fairly and peacefully when I can, and I try to love everyone, just like Atticus Finch. Atticus is the father of the narrator in the book To Kill A Mockingbird by Harper Lee which had great impact on how I now feel when I read it and everytime I read it. Lee's words first gave me the idea to become a Civil Rights activist and fight against what I belive is wrong and encourage people to see that everyone is equal.
One of the most powerful people in a person's life is their dad. This is an important philosophy in our society. However, opinions on what makes a father such a powerful figure in our lives vary. I believe a father must be strong and able to provide and protect the family. A father must be there for the family to lean on, they have to be the core of the family.
A father plays a crucial role in the life of his children. One modern adage expresses a touching thought about fathers, stating, “Dad, a son’s first hero and a daughter’s first love.” This quote embraces the relationship of Atticus Finch and his children, Jem and Scout, in Harper Lee’s novel To Kill a Mockingbird. Jeremy, the older of the Finch kids, holds his father in extremely high regard and depends on his guidance in life while his younger sister, Jean Louise, trusts Atticus whole-heartedly and adores him despite her occasional indifference toward him. During the three years in which To Kill a Mockingbird takes place, the author grants a glimpse of Atticus’ method of upbringing.
Parents play a major role in a child’s life. Parents affect how their child behaves and who they become as they grow older. The ideal parent should be an attentive listener, have a positive attitude and love their child unconditionally. Firstly, I think that parents should always listen to their kids no matter what or else they will feel neglected.
