Mahatma Gandhi once said “A true hero is not defined by their strength, but by their ability to inspire and lead others.” In the novel “To Kill A Mockingbird”, by Harper Lee. Lee shares the story of how Atticus Finch, a lawyer and single father of two, defends a color man named Tom Robison who is wrongfully convicted. He defends himself knowing he will get backlash from his home town of Maycomb. He protects Tom from the harsh, racist people of the town. Atticus Finch should still be considered a hero nowadays because he showed bravery and perseverance. Atticus should still be considered a hero today because he expressed bravery on multiple occasions which is not often shown nowadays and when it is, many people see it as heroic. Atticus should still be considered a hero because he persevered with all that was against him. He didn't take no as an answer -- when the judge did not rule in his favor he kept trying to a higher court, “--” This just shows how if he wasn't a hero he would have given up. On page he talks about how he knows taking this case will cause many struggles,”--” this shows knowing the difficulties the case will carry he still perseveres. Having perseverance back then was very heroic in this case, but in this time most people give up after the first try unless the person they are defending begs Atticus to do it himself with his own mind, therefore his preserves make him a hero.
