Atticus a well known lawyer in the little town of Maycomb in the book To Kill a Mockingbird. He comes up against a tough, rock solid case including an African American man and a young woman who grew up in poverty. Atticus has trust in the power in using the three models of rhetoric. Ethos,Pathos and Logos to prove to the jury that his client is innocent and can walk out of court that day a free man. (Lee).
The amazing book winner of the pulitzer prize To Kill A Mockingbird by, Harper lee a wonderful novel. Atticus is a father of jem and scout while they all live in the small town of Maycomb. It makes sense for Atticus a lawyer to take a stand for a local black man accused of rapeing a white woman, Tom Robinson and his trial/case because, Atticus shows a lot of integrity and being the strong willed person that he is. The first reason for atticus to take a stand for Tom is because he possesses integrity.
When Bob Ewell spat and threatens Atticus, he did not reply with negativity. Atticus understands how he is feeling and still does not hate him for doing what he did. After the trial Mr. Ewell met Atticus , “spat in his face, and told him he’d get him if it took the rest of his life” (217). I think Bob found such an appalling behavior necessary because even though he was found innocent the people of Maycomb knew he was guilty of rape. Although Atticus received negative relationship changes he also gained positive relationships with people, specifically from the black community.
During tense times and when insulted and mistreated, Atticus keeps his cool, stays out of fights, and leads a pleasant life. For instance, after the trial when Bob Ewell, Mayella’s father, spits in his face, Atticus “[doesn’t] bat an eye, just [takes] out his handkerchief and [wipes] his face and [stands] there and [lets] Mr. Ewell call him names…” (217). In chapter 22, Miss Stephanie says “this morning Mr. Bob Ewell stopped Atticus on the post office corner, spat in his face, and told him he'd get him if it took the rest of his life.” As is shown throughout the book, Atticus is one of the most respected people in the town of Maycomb, Alabama. As mentioned earlier, Atticus embarrassed Bob by defending Tom. He was filled with anger and he took it out by spitting on Atticus. Everyone knows atticus is a good man who does good things.

A time of racism, separation and inequality was brought upon the innocent people as a daily issue throughout the United States. People were separated and treated unequally in the start of the early 1900’s to mid 1950’s due to the color of their skin. While the 1950 racial discrimination disrupted many in society, the Brown vs. Board of Education case desired the respect and equality for all the separations and rejections of colored children in public schools. Many negroes, who grew up in the 1950’s, were resentfully rejected from white based schools simply because of their race (Brown 1). One of these negroes was a girl named Linda Brown.
Atticus Prides himself on justice and freedom and he also sees the best in everyone and sees potential in people and he doesn’t like to brag. We can see that Atticus prides himself on this because he never tells his children about his skill in shooting. Atticus also shows he sees the good in people because he believes that Bob Ewell still has some good in him. Bob Ewell shows his pride through oppression and racism. We can see this when Bob instills fear into his daughter through fear and violence and Bob shows how proud he is about racism because of the way he talks and acts around African
Lastly, he shows fairness when he thought Jem was the one who stabbed Bob Ewell. Atticus explains ‘’’Of course it was clear cut defense but I’ll have to go to the office and hunt up.’’’ (pg 365). This shows
