25th March 2015 There has been great advancement in the Development of Audio throughout history on every level from recording, broadcasting, concerts, multimedia, and events. Audio is often forgotten about in the advancements of modern day technologies. Audio production graduates should have knowledge of the progression and advancements in audio throughout history that has created their career field. Thomas Alva Edison had some of the most influence in the development of Audio. Edison was such a magnificent inventor people often forget the ways he contributed to the advancement of audio. In 1877 Edison created a device from a strip of tin foil wrapped around a spinning cylinder. This device was used to reproduce the melody Mary’s Little Lamb. In 1878 the song “Yankee Doodle” by Jules Levy was the first to be on record. There were numerous people or companies to credit for this progression, but it all started with an idea by Thomas Alva Edison. Audio production graduates should have knowledge of the progression and advancements in audio throughout history that has helped establish their career field. For any audio professionals that would like to contribute to the future, remember that it is always helpful to know the past or history of your career field. Over the past several years we have went from Pagers, to Walkman’s, to the current day where everything you need or can imagine is on your cell phone. With the advancements already being made at such a rapid rate in audio technology the possibilities are literally almost endless.
