Before Audrey Hepburn arose to fame she too witnessed poverty and famine. As a young girl Audrey lived through World War 2 and its hardships. She found hope through the UNICEF organization because they greatly helped her through the malnutrition she witnessed. Hepburn rose to fame because of her beauty and amazing talent in many activities like ballet and acting. Not only was Mrs. Hepburn a world renowned actress, but also because of her great relations to the UNICEF organization she became a long time UNICEF ambassador. As stated by the UNICEF organization,“...she went on a mission to Ethiopia, where years of drought and civil strife had caused terrible famine….Audrey talked about the projects to the media in the United States, Canada and Europe over several weeks, giving as many as 15 interviews a day” (“Audrey Hepburn”). This quote shows how she not only went on the gruesome missions but she spoke out about them. She used her fame and media platform to raise awareness and explain her urgency to solace the problems around the world. The many interviews she did each day shows her determination to speak out about the displacement and starving children. Explained by audrey Hepburn herself,“I also witnessed how much is being done to help and how just a small amount of aid can assist in treating the sick, irrigating the land and planting new crops…I came to realize that Ethiopia's problems are not insoluble if only the world will give a little more” (“The deeply personal reason Audrey Hepburn decided to work with UNICEF”). Audrey explains in an interview about what she witnessed and her realization. She came to the conclusion that humanity's problems are going to change if the world starts to help.
