The result: We 'll be extracting 2,000 to 2,700 gallons of fuel per acre (as opposed to about 400 gallons with today 's technology). With better fuels and more-efficient engines improving mileage by about 50 percent, we can safely predict a seven- to tenfold gain in miles driven per acre of land over the next 25 years. Given this biohol trajectory, a future of independence from gasoline becomes not only possible but probable. And the trajectory begins with garden-variety corn ethanol" (My Big Biofuels Bet).
Lieutenant James Cook was assigned the duty of locating new lands for the British Crown in 1770 while he was on his expedition to observe the Transit of Venus. On this journey, Cook discovered new lands. Eighteen years later, the first fleet sailed from England and arrived in Australia on January 26, 1788, which is known as Australia Day and is observed every year to mark the arrival of the First Fleet. However, in recent times, there has been a discussion surrounding the suitability of this date and its importance to Indigenous Australians. Asalamualaykum, Today I would like to express my point on why we should change Australia Day, also known as Invasion Day, or as some others may call it, Survival Day.
In the early 2000 Al Gore once said, “The planet is in distress and all the attention is on Paris Hilton.” In the same theme, Michael Pollan writes, “Why Bother?”, an article from The New York Times Magazine published in 2008 telling Americans they are too consumed with themselves and maintain a “cheap-energy mind”. And here, in 2016 climate change is seriously happening and the nation is still not addressing the gravity of the issue and why we should indeed bother to make changes. It is time that this nation discerns that climate change is real and it is happening as we speak. Climate change is a threat to each and every one of us and imperative to the survival of life on this planet.
The entire Western Work remain in mourning, no more than the people of the United Kingdom Finally, the popular Prince Harry had met a young woman - a long-legged blonde to no-one’s surprise; with whom he could spent more one night with cheating upon - , and under pressure from his Father, had proposed marriage. Evelyn Dimarco had accepted, and the wedding had been set for the twenty-second day of March, the first day of a glorious England Autumn, and as befitted his status as the common man’s Prince, Harry had elected to forgo the normal pomp and ceremony associated with a Royal wedding, and instead, follow the tradition of one of his Country’s colonies, Australia, and instead thrown an informal barbeque in the grounds of Buckingham Palace. With the amount of people to cater for, and sausages and hamburger patties to cook, for an invitation list that exceeded one-thousand, the number of gas lines required to be installed had been massive, and all it had taken was one leak in the pipes to create an explosion large enough to wipe out every known member of the British Royal Family in one fell swoop, as well as a number of well-known celebrities, Elton John and Justin Beiber amongst them. Which was no big loss.
Persuasive Speech Ah Australia. The land of opportunity. The land of freedom and equality. The land of wealth and good health. The lucky country.
By the year 2025 100% of our nation's power will come either directly from the sun or from clean renewable resources like wind and geothermal or fusion. We commit the United States to this endeavor because we choose to take responsibility for the future of this magnificent planet we share with all the great nations of the earth. The earth's climate is undeniably changing at an unprecedented rate, and the rate and extent of this change will affect us all, and will cause—and is already causing—extreme hardship on those least able to adapt. There is also no doubt that human activity is responsible for this rapid rate of climate
Imagine having no clean drinking water, no agriculture, and no fresh air. Imagine having to import everything, even something as basic as water, because industry has polluted all our natural sources. Imagine a nation, no longer a leading producer of the world’s crops. Revenue will be extremely low; economy will diminish. Imagine having to wear a mask every time one steps outside.
With the growing number of humans and animal life, comes the increasing number of homes, buildings, crops, transportation, etc. As the need for these essential items rise, so does its concerning effects on our world due to climate change. According to Robert Socolow and Stephen Pacala’s article, “A Plan to Keep Carbon on Check,” due to human activities, we the people are the cause for the abundance amount of carbon dioxide released into the air annually (2006). Socolow and Pacala, go on to discuss that at the rate emissions are growing our world is in trouble and need to act now. By making changes and committing to fixing the next 50 years, we can cut our emissions in half over that time (Pacala and Socolow, 2006).
People complain about pollution from factories, cars, global warming, and the melting of polar ice caps, yet many people disregard the dangerous that come with fracking. Fracking is the process of injecting liquid at high pressure into subterranean rocks, and/or boreholes to force open existing fissures and extract oil or gas. Fracking is causing an epidemic economically and environmentally. Fracking is continuously destroying the earth day by day. From the endless fracking today’s economy is depleting.
Cars are the most important products in the modern lifestyle. Whether it’s going to work, school, the mall, or even your friend’s house, it’s likely that you will be using a car to get there. As you all know, cars can have drastically different prices and look drastically different as well. I’m sure everyone here has a car, and I’m also sure everyone here will be buying another car in the future. Whether you want a car that can fit a large amount of people, or a sports car that can go extremely fast, an electric car will almost always be the best option for you.
Did you know that “[a] verge temperatures have climbed 1.4 degrees Fahrenheit (0.8 degree Celsius) around the world since 1880, much of this in recent decades, according to NASA's Goddard Institute for Space Studies?”(nationalgeographic.com). Global warming is a topic with increasing concern that has received much attention in the last decade. Global warming’s effects are catastrophic, and it is due to human actions that each year 7 billion tons of carbon dioxide and other harmful green house gases are released. However the topic of global warming is not taken seriously. This is mostly because developed countries do not want to look at the fact that the attempts to industrialize and modernize the civilization emits high numbers of green house
Everyday people buy plastic things from the cafeteria, from plastic containers, lids on cups, and things as small as straws, and like 50% of plastic used it will be thrown away after one use. However, do you ever stop and think, what happens to the plastic? If you’re thinking that it just magically goes away you 're wrong. It will most likely end up in a landfill somewhere or in the ocean, and as you may think that your actions do not impact the world, think again. Everyone in the world has at least used one piece of plastic, adding to the problem of plastic pollution and helping certifying the terrifying statisticc that acooording to the 2018 Earth day video, “by 2050 there will more plastic in the ocean than fish”, which almost is impossible to think of.
Climate Change is one of the most unsettling problems mankind faces today. It leaves an impact on every single living thing, on every continent, no matter the privilege. Long term investment must be used to change the world. People must do more than just change out their light bulbs for eco-friendly ones, or drive fuel efficient cars. A choice as simple as changing our diets could reduce a human’s carbon footprint by fifty percent.
Global Warming Proposal Introduction The phenomenon of constant increase in the earth’s temperature is known as global warming. The excessive use of fossil fuels is destroying our environment as well as wildlife. It is a great threat to human life too, as this activity is causing intense pollution and also results in damaging the ozone layer.
Global climate change constitutes arguably the single most important threat to mankind. From the onset of the industrial revolution, greenhouse gas emissions (GHGs), including carbon dioxide (CO2) have increasingly built up in the atmosphere, causing the climate to warm up slowly but steadily (IPCC, 2014). NASA predicts that 2016 will mark the hottest year on record. The effects of global warming are ubiquitous: Greenland’s glacier and the Arctic ice cap are melting, ocean levels are rising, occurrences of extreme weather are increasing, including hurricanes and areas of either intense drought or flooding. Collectively, these changes and their direct consequences are an imminent danger and they directly affect other urgent issues humanity is
