INTRODUCTION
Housing is one of the basic necessities for a human being. Since the 2020s Australia has been facing a housing crisis due to the increased prices. The crisis is caused due to several factors like the shortage of social housing with the rise in population, internal migration, and lower income. The impact of which is homelessness, house affordability crisis, minimal security of tenure. With the 2022/2023 federal budget the federal government had made a few plans and reforms. The National Housing and Homelessness Plan, that intends to set out key short-, medium- and long-term reforms to supply safe and affordable housing for Australians to buy or rent a house. The expansion of the remit of the National Housing Infrastructure Facility to more flexibly deploy funds to accelerate the supply of social and affordable housing. Even though all levels of government contribute to shaping local housing markets and have a role to play in promoting better housing outcomes the primary responsibility for housing policy and housing funding lies with federal and state/territory governments, local governments may play a role in facilitating housing delivery and retaining existing affordable housing. In preparing and implementing a local housing strategy, local government operates within a larger institutional and funding framework and may draw on resources provided by federal and state government. State governments are responsible for public and community housing, rent assistance and to create affordable housing initiatives. During the recent NSW (New South Wales) state election, the housing crisis was an important agenda in the campaign of the major political parties the Labor Party and the Liberal party as the responsibilities of infrastructure and housing lie with the state government and promises were made by the parties to improve the situation with the funds given by the
