MORGANTOWN, W.Va.--A game that started as a pitcher 's duel turned ugly for the West Virginia University baseball team in the latter innings as Furman defeated the Mountaineers in in the series-opener on Friday evening at Monongalia County Ballpark. Junior Chad Donato (1-3) was cruising during the first fine innings before things got shaky in the sixth. Matt Towarnicky 's one-out base hit into right field started the six hit, five run barrage. Carter Grote doubled and Sims Griffith was hit by a pitch to load the bases. Cameron Whitehead 's RBI single gave the Paladins (12-17) a 1-0 lead.
In this week’s reading, “Spanish Conquest” by Elizabeth Carmichael and Chloe Sayer discuss the subjugation, ethnocide, and struggle the indigenous population of Mexico endured during the Spanish conquest. The Spanish conquistador, Hernan Cortez, enslave and forced the Aztecs to believe that Christianity was the one true religion. Therefore, the indigenous people were forced to convert their faith through the Spanish missionaries to lose their indigenous roots. Later, the authors explain the many difficulties and conflicts Spanish priest underwent to teach the Christian faith to the Aztecs. The Spanish friar first taught the indigenous people Christianity in Nahuatl.

Referred to as “the best representative of the Mexican sculptural movement at the time” by Diego Rivera, I chose to do my research on Guatemalan painter and sculptor Rafael Yela Günther. I am attracted to his work because long before I knew who he was I saw some of his sculptures personally in Guatemala and I was truly impressed. Naturally my interest to know more about his artwork grew when I learned that Rivera had some influence on him during their time working together in Teotihuacan. Rafael Yela Günther was born on September 18, 1888 in Quetzaltenango, Guatemala.

For this week I decided to write a summary of chapter 11: Anglo-Saxons and Mexicans. The new political ideologies were created between 1830 to the 1840s. These new ideas were influenced by pride and obvious racism. These beliefs inspired the idea that American Anglo-Saxons were the dominant force and that they should be the ones to shape the destiny of others. The idea of the American Anglo-Saxon race was influenced by the American Mexican war.

The reason why the Spaniards became victorious, was because the Spaniards were looked upon as if they were gods because of their outer appearance. The Aztecs broke bread and welcomed the Spaniards with gifts and parties. The Aztecs triggered their relationship with the Spaniards by holding a ritual for the arrival of the god which included a human sacrifice. The Spaniards didn’t agree with the rituals and began to despise the Aztecs.
For this assignment, I watched “Conquistadors” episodes 3 and 4, which are tilted “The Search for El Dorado & All the World is Human.” The two episodes follow a British gentleman as he relives the journey of the of the three Spanish conquistador’s travels. A recurring theme throughout both of the expeditions was the greedy search for riches and gold. In the first episode, the British documentarian follows the footsteps of Francisco Pizarro and Vasco Núñez de Balboa in their march to the South Sea. Through the dehumanization of enslaving Native Americans to help with the conquest through difficult terrain, the Spaniards never founds the golden city they were looking for, but experienced starvation for the unforgiving jungle.
Cortázar 's short story, Axolotl, is about a man, that after frequent visits to the zoo, he becomes obsessed with Axolotls, observes them, and becomes one of them. This story explores the idea of mental metamorphosis, as the character does not literally transform into an Axolotl. The protagonist makes observations that reflect the way he feels in his life, outside of the zoo.
Guanajuato, Mexico is where it all began. Its where my family cultivated their Mexican traditions. It is a place that is known, for the colonial cities, especially San Miguel de Allende. San Miguel de Allende is located in the eastern part of Guanajuato in a hilly area. An area that at the moment you get there you fall in love with the: architecture, food, art, monuments and the infinite amount of things.
