Dallas Police Efforts to increase Legitimacy The Dallas Police Department is constantly engaged in programs to increase its legitimacy and to maintain the assurance of having an approachable and trustful relation between Police Officers and the public. Also, the Dallas Police Organization is continuously implementing and enhancing programs to involve citizens of all demographic areas of the city, to bring their diverse ideas to have a better community. The incidents I chose that have shown the most criminal justice malfeasance is the Eric Garner incident in New York and the killing of Justine Damond. All five contextual themes can be seen in this case and the administrative concepts that could have prevented these situations can be seen as well. I will go over these cases one at a time to not be confusing to the reader. This system was created by Barack Obama, due to all the policing violations around the country going on, similar to the Mike Brown case in Ferguson. This policy was created to strength community policing and the trust between police officers and the community. This system created a few listening sessions across the country to receive a variety of recommendations. This task incorporated 6 pillars from a wider perspective to identify the best practices, and recommendations on how policing practices can promote effective crime reduction while building public trust. Research shows that 95% of all large police departments have BWC programs in their departments. The extension of BWC programs are due pushed by the American Civil Liberties Union, Campaign Zero, and Black Lives Matter movement (BLM) to improve policing in the country. The reason for an increase in the use of BWC in departments is due to officer involved shootings and incidents in which bystanders recorded events and later posted the videos on social media. A theory on the effects of body cameras states that police officers and civilians behave differently on when being recorded than they would off film. This theory suggests that when a person is being watched, crime reduces, honesty is encouraged, and work productivity is increased.
The powerful words “trust, but verify” were once said by former United States President Ronald Reagan. These words need to be used for all situations and people. In order for there to be trust and a way to verify what happens between the police officers and citizens, police body cameras need to be worn. Technology is advanced as it has ever been and there is now a way for police officers to wear a camera right on their uniform. This technology must be taken advantage of for the benefits it provides to police officers and citizens.

White states “Body-worn cameras (BWCs) are perhaps the most debated topic in policing today. Advocates and critics have made numerous claims about the impact and consequences of the technology, but most of these claims are untested. BWCs have the potential to completely transform police-citizen encounters, and in the wake of the shooting of Michael Brown in Ferguson, adoption of the technology is likely to be exponential. Although everyone loved police officers on September 12, 2001 (McLaughlin), times have changed and the entire criminal justice system as a whole has adjusted. Public policy making and strategies are just the tip of the iceberg for these changes (Dowler). Of 600 polled law enforcement agencies by the International Association of Chiefs of Police's Center for Social Media findings, 92% percent use some form of social media (90% use Facebook, 50% use Twitter, and 37% use YouTube). Ironically, although media caused the negative bias and false expectations, social media is viewed as effective by 2/3 of the departments in the poll in improving community relations, not to mention assisting in investigations (qtd. in Siner).
