Baby boomers are the demographic cohort, known as the generation that makes up the substantial portion of the world’s population. Individuals born during the time of 1946 to 1964 has lived in environments where smoking lead to a detrimental impact in their later years. As the third leading cause of death, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) is common among the older population. This disease is the leading cause of both morbidity and mortality. Leading to a consensus that older adults (particularly baby boomers) are at a great risk of COPD because they grew up in an era where smoking was fashionable, cigarettes were provided during the wars, and exposure to secondhand smoke was tremendous.
One thing that was exciting and very interesting for me was learning about the Boston Massacre in Social Studies. Most people think of it as a minor event (which I did too until I learned all about it) in which a few people were killed, but it is much more than that, as I found out when my class went into a lot of depth to investigate the mysterious Boston Massacre. Some people think that the colonists aggravated the British and that the British fired in self-defense. Others say it was the British murdering (or murthering as they said it back then) innocent colonists. Whatever happened, it is a very interesting subject and kind of makes you question our supposed to be innocent ancestors.
Following WWII, the United States enter a time that would be called the Baby Boom. From 1946 to 1964 over 76 million babies were born in the United States. At the time babies made up around 40 percent of the American population. This changed the United States in a major way. Most historians believe that many families had babies because they were final out the Great Depression and can final afford to take care of it.
The Canadian population is made up of several, diverse generations, the baby boom generation is the most defining, and most significant of all. The baby boom is a sudden rise in the number of labours. When an unexpected fall in the amount of labours is identified it is considered over. The soldiers coming back from World War II were racing to arise their families which resulted in the Baby Boom. Why was the baby boom the most defining and significant moment in Canadian history?
Every step that was taken in the past leaves behind a footprint in the future. In 1946, after the World War 2 was over, the economy raised and soldiers returning from war began to start their families which resulted in increased birthrates. The term used to describe the period of increased birthrates from 1946 and 1965 is known as Baby Boom. The people born during the baby boom period are known as ‘Baby Boomers’. This generation is yet the largest generation in Canada.
When the Baby Boomers generation emerged, it was already “considered to be a very different generation than its previous ones” (Owram, 1997). The Baby Boomer Generation not only witnessed some of the greatest social changes in history during the 1960s and 1970s, but also participated in them, just like the Civil Rights Movement as well as the Women Right’s Movement, which created the expectation for this generation to give its next generation a better world than the one they found. However, the Baby Boomers created a societal trend towards a thinner body standards for females which caused the women’s image to decrease all the way until 1959, setting a limit during the 1960´s until now.
The research that I am going to be performing during my collection of information will consist of a survey given to doctors, nurses, patients, and family members from several of assisted living communities here in Manhattan. These facilities include: Meadowlark Hills Retirement Community, Via Christi Village, and Stoneybrook Retirement Community. My study lacks the use of funding to help in the development of professional questionnaires, a team to assist in research, and a larger sample size to support a greater collection of information about facility operations, services, and care provided. During the interview process with the professionals, patients, and families, I will have to remain cautious so that I avoid carrying information given
College is one of the most significant times in a person’s life. Every year high school kids will visit many different colleges so that they can be confident in their college decision. Some kids will follow in their parent’s foot steps and base their decision on where their mom or dad went, though, not all kids are fortunate to have help from their parents. Many kids nowadays may be the first in their family to take on higher education. The article, “First Generation College Students: Unprepared and Behind” by Liz Riggs explains that kids who are the first in their family to take on college are at a disadvantage compared to kids with parents who attended college.

Late Adulthood is the stage of the human life cycle where an individual nears the end of their life. The life expectancy in the United States has slowly increased over the years therefore allowed many to further analyze the physical, cognitive, and psychosocial development during late adulthood. The stage of late adulthood has been emphasized by ageism and the stereotypical "old" person but, will be further educated by the normative development of the life cycle of late adulthood. The Negative Effects of Unions First and foremost, unions in the work force were not always bad and were necessary in the past. They fought to raise minimum wages, improve working conditions and end child labor in America, all things extremely important at the time. However, in today’s society and the working environment, unions, are rather detrimental to businesses and the workers. Labor unions are defined as an organization of workers formed for the purpose of advancing its members ' interests in respect to wages, benefits, and working conditions. Labors unions began during the Industrial Revolution, a time where wages were low, conditions were harsh, and compensation did not exist.
