Bad Choices In Shakespeare's Romeo And Juliet

When Romeo married a stranger he just met a couple hours ago, he explains it as love at first sight, but it was more complicated than that. Coming from two very different families made Romeo and Juliet’s relationship even more complicated. These complications make Romeo take actions too quickly. Romeo’s actions force Juliet to make negative choices that lead to her taking the poison and ultimately both of their deaths. Romeo went to the capulet party where he met Juliet. “I’ll go along, no such sight to be shown, But to rejoice in splendor of mine own” (i.ii.102-103). Romeo did not want to go to the Capulet party, but he went to see Rosaline who he thought he was in love with. He fell in love with Rosaline’s beauty, and he thought he could not find anyone more beautiful. When he saw Juliet from a distance, he instantly fell in love. After talking for a little while, Romeo fell even more in love. Romeo said, “and, touching hers, make blessed my rude hand. Did my heart love till now? Forswear it, sight! “Then hie you hence to Friar Lawrence’ cell; There stays a husband to make you a wife” (ii.v.68-69). Friar Lawrence agreed to marry Romeo and Juliet after Romeo convinced him. Because Juliet was a capulet, and Romeo was montague, their families did not get along. Romeo or Juliet didn't take this into consideration when getting married because all they cared about was being together. Romeo said, “ Do thou but close our hands with holy words, then love- devouring death do what he dare- It is enough I may but call her mine”. (ii.vi.6-8). Romeo and Juliet didn't think twice about getting married; They felt their love was more important than their families. Them getting married was difficult because nobody could know about it.
