“I have a bit to say concerning what’s been going on recently. Specifically, I would like to talk about the little things and the big things. From the everyday unkind word to the shootings. From the quarrels to the civil war. Because at the end of the day, it’s all pointing towards the bigger picture. Note that’s every example I’ve mentioned has both an everyday item and a disaster. It’s these little things that lead to the larger of problems. Think about it: once you do enough little things – good or bad – it equates to one big thing. And at society’s rate, we’ve committed multiple of these acts, whether we mean it or not. We’ve made people angry to the point they take it out on us or themselves. As crazy as it seems, leaving people out and …show more content…
I would. For lack of a better example, William Zeller, a well - known programmer, committed suicide due to the trauma from his sexual abuse as a child. The following is a direct quote from his suicide note: “My first memories as a child are of being raped, repeatedly. This has affected every aspect of my life. This darkness, which is the only way I can describe it, has followed me like a fog, but at times intensified and overwhelmed me, usually triggered by a distinct situation.” I know I stress about this kind of stuff a lot, but as someone who has attempted suicide twice, I know what it’s like. It is an absolute nightmare to walk into an establishment where you know you’ll be terrorized. It is horrifying to be haunted by a past that completely altered you for the worst. And the ability to hurt our peers to the point they choose to hurt themselves… that’s just monstrous. I wish it wasn’t this way, and I feel as if no one should ever feel like …show more content…
Many people realize what’s going on, and some of them attempted to make this situation known. For example, David James Armsby, better known as Dead Sound, created his short film Being Pretty in 2017. What starts as seemingly innocent soon becomes something truly raw and horrific. In the animation, those who are handicapped, chronically ill, looked different, went through a struggle, or were gay were deemed “ugly,” while those who were perfect were deemed “pretty.” This clearly visualizes what we are doing to others – a bit exaggerated, yes, but it’s necessary. Another example is the numerous social experiments that have been conducted and brought to the attention of the public. There’s some on Youtube, and I have watched some of them. Some of them showed positive reactions, such as people defending children being bullied. Others, however, did the exact opposite. In one video, one girl played the part of a rich child and a poor child. When she was the rich child, the surrounding civilians gave her compliments, hugs, and (in one clip) free ice cream. But when she was the poor child, the civilians completely disregarded her. They did not give her food or money when she asked them. And in one clip, a well - off child screamed in fear when the poor girl approached her. It was heart - wrenching. And it also shows the kind of attitude that we, as a society,
