1495, three years after Columbus's discovery of the new world, Maximo Zamoria, a Spanish conquistador, set off to the Americas in search of gold and glory. Maximo gathered a crew of one hundred strong and well-trained men, along with his right hand man, Samuel. With the permission of the Spanish king, Maximo and his men gathered enough supplies for half a year of travel, and got the finest Spanish sailing vessel to set off for the new world.

Some people say he landed in modern day galveston. Which he was healed captive as a slave for a tribe called charrucos, he was healed as a healer.

The person who was primarily responsible for the colonization of the wild, untamed Florida was none other than Spanish Conquistador Pedro Menéndez de Avilés. Menéndez de Avilés brought forth the overall development of Florida by establishing St. Augustine, the oldest continuously-inhabited settlement in the United States, as well as bringing European culture over to the state of Florida. After a month-long journey to the land of Florida, Menéndez de Avilés and his crew arrived in 1565 with the intention of claiming Florida for the Spanish crown.
The 16th century Spanish explorer, Hernando De Soto arrived in the west indies as a young man and made money in slave trade. Seeking glory and riches, he left on a major expedition in 1538 to conquer Florida for Spain. He and his men traveled throughout the southeastern united states in search of money. In 1541, De Soto became the first Europeans to cross the Mississippi river. De Soto died early the following year.

Christopher Columbus as we know is the historical person credited for the discovery of the New World. Zheng He was a Hui-Chinese mariner, explorer, diplomat and fleet admiral, who commanded voyages to Southeast Asia, South Asia, the Middle East, and East Africa. Each men and their fleets had two completely different reason for their travel. Christopher Columbus purpose was to find a new trade way to the Asian countries. Zheng He's purpose was to enlarge empires control of seaway trade.
Hernando Cortes, a Spanish Conquistador and explorer, left Spain in 1504 destined for the New World--never to return--making several changes. Cortes first stop was the island of Hispaniola where he spent the 11 years helping to plan the conquest of Cuba. Life was good in Cuba, so good that he was second in charge but not good enough for Cortes for there was no gold. He left Cuba telling an incredible lie where upon meeting the mainland of the coast he burned his ships leaving only T. as his destination. Upon reaching T., the true colors of Cortes emerged; colors that are insidious, malignant, and barbarous.

Spain and Portugal were able to maintain their empire for over three hundred years due to the following resources and advantages. Financial stability, military superiority, and slavery, which both utilized in order to dominate the new world. In the age of exploration as Spain and Portugal were shipping out famous explores such as Christopher Columbus, Hernán Cortés, Francisco Pizarro, Pedro Alvares Cabral, and Ferdinand Magellan.
In 1494, the Treaty of Tordesillas was established in order to evenly divide unclaimed lands between Portugal and Spain. This led to the Line of Demarcation, in which the non-European world was divided into two zones. Portugal had rights to the eastern hemisphere, and Spain had rights to the western hemisphere. This allowed Spain to colonize areas in the New World. Even though they had this opportunity, they were not able to colonize specific areas in North America due to competition with other European countries.
