Baseball is often referred to as one of the most difficult sports to learn. It's something that takes dedication, commitment, and most of all, it takes persistence. Babe Ruth, arguably the gretest baseball player of all time, once said, ̈never let the fear of striking out get in your way of playing the game. ̈ Growing up in a baseball household, my dad would remind me of this everyday. Needless to say, when I was younger I didn't understand what this quote meant and I never really thought about why he drove home this idea to me. However, as I've gotten older and have experienced many things, I have come to realize that baseball is a lot like life. These are the stages of your life where you begin interacting with people, make friends, learning life skills, and of course, reading, writing and arithmetic. It's never easy making new friends even the older you get talking to people can be awkward. If you don't introduce yourself to people, you'll never learn their name, you may never get to know them, and ultimately you may miss the opportunity to gain a new friend. Getting there is the hardest part but once you do, you get the satisfaction and once you do it once you are able to get it down and it starts to become natural to you. This is like hitting a single and finding yourself standing on first base. The ultimate goal though is to cross homeplate and score a run. To get home you have to get through all the bases without making a mistake, not making an out. Like on the basepaths, there are many difficult challenges you have to face in life. This is your middle school days. Now you've made friends and you are ready to put your trust in them and you almost rely on them to try and get you to second base. This is like the sacrifice bunt(taking the out to move the runner). Much like trusting your friends you are trusting your teammate to successfully move you over. Sometimes this is successful but sometimes you need to make your own move and try to do it yourself. Having people around you is good but you cant always rely on them to help you succeed because sometimes even in their best efforts they only hold you back.
This leads to the later stage of school, or third base. This is where you start to rely on yourself a lot more. You can no longer rely on others because there's no real sure way for them to get you to third. You still need someone to help move you over to third but it requires more of relying on the skills you learned throughout your career and the things you've experienced to move yourself forward. It's not going to be easy in fact there's a good chance you make an out, but even if you do it's still a new learning opportunity. And every success and every failure can help you moving forward in life. Eventually things become second nature and you'll be able to succeed without a
