Major league baseball is one sport that has hit a home run time and time again with its sports marketing program using social media. As much as any other sport, baseball is known for providing its fans with information and fun through interactive, online experiences, including video streaming, using the social media presence of well-known players, digital storytelling, showing personality, being everywhere, providing special offers, covering special moments, and many other ways.

Digital Storytelling

Baseball plans to use social media to tell little known, behind-the-scenes stories about such topics as ball storage and uniform preparation. The baseball season is 162 games long, so the stories may make it more entertaining. MLB hopes to bring in new fans.

Every team will use videos, GIFs, and images to make each game seem alive to someone following it. This can make it fun and entertaining even for fans of losing teams.

The San Francisco Giants have even created a social media cafe (@CaféSFG) at AT&T ballpark, where fans will even be able to check out a virtual reality spring training experience. They can also keep up with new social media updates. No wonder the Giants were called “baseball’s marketing MVPs," by AdWeek.

San Francisco Giant fans, who follow the team on Twitter can get a special deal on tickets to remember Madison Bumgarner’s two home runs and 11 strikeouts in the first game of the season. Fans had the chance to receive two tickets for $11 each.
