George Washington once said, “The harder the conflict, the greater the triumph." George Washington was an exceptional leader and role model for many United States presidents to follow. He led the Continental Army to victory during the Revolutionary War. George Washington also cared about the well-being of his men and the formation of his country. George Washington was a great leader, whether in the military or as president. George Washington was a great military leader during the Revolutionary War. One example is the Battle of Trenton. The Battle of Trenton was important. America was in a bad position and lost the Revolutionary War to Great Britain. The Battle of Trenton was a surprise attack on the Hessian. In a letter written by him, he praises his men for the good work they did at The Battle Of Trenton. He also expressed his concern and hopes that the men will continue to fight since their contract is up. In the letter to Source A, he states “But as we have begun the glorious work of driving the Enemy, he hopes they will not now turn their backs upon them, and leave the business half-finished at this important Crisis, a Crisis, which may, more than probably determine the fate of America” (Washington 2). This quote shows Washington’s concern for the cause and hopes that his men will stay and fight. The commoners in France rebelled against the ruling class and executed the king. Great Britain and Spain were worried and instigated war on France. Since King Louis XVI was no longer around, and that was who allied with America and France, America no longer had to help France. In addition, when Washington retired, he was worried about future presidents making the wrong choices. As a result, his farewell address consisted of warnings for future presidents of America. First, in Source C, George Washington’s Proclamation of Neutrality of 1793, George Washington speaks for America, against the rebellion of the people, and claims neutrality. This is important because America was still a new country, and did not have the money, men, or resources to go to war. In Source C, George Washington states “The duty and interest of the United States require, that they should with sincerity and good faith adopt and pursue a conduct friendly and impartial toward the belligerent Powers” (Washington 1). This shows that Washington was set upon being neutral in this war. Due to the rebellion caused by The Proclamation Of Neutrality, Washington decided to
