Gatorade was founded in the summer of 1965 when a University of Florida assistant coach sat down with a team of physicians to determine why so many players were being affected by the heat and its illnesses. Two key factors were determined by the group of researchers: the fluids and electrolytes lost were not being replaced, and the large amounts of carbohydrates used for energy were not being replenished. The researchers went to the lab and formulated a balanced carbohydrate – electrolyte drink that would replace the key factors the Gator players lost through practice and games. The “Be like Mike” Gatorade commercial exhibits logos by using professional athletes and statistics. Michael Jordan can improve the credibility, but he can also improve the commercial with logic. Because Michael Jordan is a professional basketball player it only makes sense that the action shots are more real which intrigue the audience so they believe what the commercial is saying. When a person hears statistics, they tend to believe it more because it sounds like research and true facts. Professional athletes are used for lots of things and since they are professionals, people will believe anything they say. So putting professional athletes, such as Michael Jordan, in advertisements really make people believe in the product as well as make people want it so they can be like Mike. Visual aids and music are everything in advertisements because they’re made to draw customers in to buy the product. Visual aids also help credibility and make people believe Michael more. Facts are the thing that kind of seals the deal in a commercial. Something about facts makes people want it more. People believe numbers and never thinks it will steer them wrong. Facts are also contributing to the credibility of the author and narrative so people will be drawn to it. This commercial does a very good job retaining to the product. Michael Jordan is a great role model so everyone would love to be like him, so why not drink Gatorade just like Mike. All-in-all the Be like Mike Gatorade commercial was very well thought out and appeals to its product and audience in every way it went at
