Beatrice Prior is an ordinary girl, or so she thought. She lives in futuristic, dystopian Chicago, Illinois. In other words, it’s basically a blemished version of Chicago. The buildings are torn apart especially in the outskirts of the city. Also, there’s a humongous fence that surrounds their city to keep the innocent away from any harm. The government tells them, that there is nothing beyond the wall, and they’re the last standing city. No one knows why that is.

Abnegation are the selfless ones. They put others before themselves. They blamed the selfish. Beatrice Prior was born into an Abnegation family. Amity are the peaceful people. They dislike the idea of war. Candor are the most honest people ever. They never tell a lie. They hate liars. Now, how do the government decide who goes in what faction? First, all 16 year olds have to take a special test that’ll tell them what faction would be the best for them. The tester gives you this serum that sends you to a simulation. They grade you by your actions. Beatrice was expecting ordinary test results. She predicted that she was just going to get Abnegation already, but she actually got more than one faction. They call these type of people, “Divergent.” The government absolutely hates anyone that is Divergent, and would execute them right away. They believe that the Divergent will overcome their power, and take over. However, the woman who tested Beatrice, let her go and deleted her test results immediately before the government saw. Next, they go to a kind of gathering called, “The Choosing Ceremony.” There, they finally pick what faction they want to be in! Beatrice picked Dauntless, because she just wanted to be away from
