Imagine having a different face than everybody else, people sneaking looks at you every once in awhile, and not being able to go in public without people whispering at you and giving you weird looks. This is the life of a fifth grader named August or Auggie Pullman. In the book “Wonder” by R.J. Palacio Auggie’s parents were debating about if Auggie should go to school or not. August was thinking “no way” was he going to school but then during the middle of summer, Auggie’s mom took him to the school to see what it’s all about and that changed his mind quite a bit. He finally made a decision that he was going to go to school at Beecher Prep for his fifth grade year. As the school year goes on a lot of different positive and negative things happen to August. However, during these actions, Auggie learns a lot of new things about himself and other people. I believe that when August made the choice of going to school at Beecher Prep was a very wise choice and made a positive impact on his life.

People would ignore him by not making any type of physical contact with him. “They would sneak peeks at me from behind their notebook or when they thought I wasn’t looking.” This quote was found on page 61 and what it means to me is that because Auggie was different, people would stare at him, point fingers, laugh at him, or worse, make fun of him. As stated by August on page 72 he says, “At Beecher Prep, I’m the moldy cheese.” The reason Auggie described himself as “moldy cheese” is because no one would ever touch him or talk to him just like in the story “Diary of a Wimpy Kid” there is moldy cheese that no one would touch but if you did touch it, bad things would happen to you.
