The Benefits and Detriments of Technology
Technology is an everyday part of life for most people, used in different ways everyday. Advancements in technology are very common, but along with the progression in technology there are also drawbacks that occur. Ray Bradbury's short story “The Veldt” shows examples of the benefits and detriments in technology, these same benefits and detriments can be seen in the “Biomaterials of Science” journal.
The technology shown in Bradbury's “The Veldt” is extremely advanced and provide many benefits to the Hadley family. The technology save the people in the house imense time. The nursery, able to provide educational opportunities for the children …show more content…

The technology of “The Veldt” dehumanized each and every family member. Taking away human interaction to a certain extent, or taking away the simple tasks of everyday life can be detrimental to someones health. The technology in the “Happylife home” took the role of the parents in the childrens lives. The technological advancements taking over the families lives aswell as their relationships with each other. Having to rely on technology the way the Hadley’s did resulted in the death of George and Lydia, leaving Peter and Wendy without parents. Bradbuys “The Veldt” shows the extreme danger than can occur when putting too much trust into …show more content…

Advancements such as the printing of cells, tissues, and organs for humans. “Specifically, 3D bioprinting has provided significant advances in the medical intudstry, since such technology has led to significant breakthroughs in the synthesis of biomaterials, cells, and accompanying elements to produce composite living tissue.” (Panda) The ability to 3D print viable cells and tissues for organs could be the future of medicine, possibly saving thousands of lives. “Bioprinting techniques have undergone great advancements in the field of regenerative medicine to provide 3D printed models for numerous artificial organs and transplantable tissues.” (Panda) This newly learned knowledge is re-shaping modern medicine as people know it. Nevertheless there are also detriments seen in the use of 3D printing. Is 3D printing cells, organs, and tissues ethical? As 3D printing in the medical field is still evolving, it is unsure the long term effects. Unable to see the possible detrimental effects of artificial cells, organs, and tissues can be very dangerous. In the same way that the technology in the “Happylife home” was ultimately a fatal detriment to the Hadley family. As research proceeds more information is sure to emerge about the future of 3D printing in the medical
