Competency: Increased dependency on modern tools like calculators has affected the creativity of people. Sometime back, difficult mathematical problems were solved without the use of calculators. However, that is not the case now as people rely on electronic gadgets even to work out the simplest sums. This is without effect on our brains as people would rather choose the easiest way out hampering critical thinking. Distractions and Reduced Productivity: Most technology today, and especially when it comes to mobiles, sells itself as making life easier and more convenient. Contrary to these assertions, with all the gadgets around me beeping, buzzing and vying for our attention, I need to multi-task on all the notifications, social media feeds, apps and websites. Admittedly, I have somehow become obsessed with following people on Twitter, and keeping up to date with all the various devices and software, which were in fact intended to assist people achieve more with less effort. Addiction can develop when a child has too much unmoderated computer time or otherwise have too much freedom over what he does while using it. This can lead to symptoms of withdrawal whenever a child is away from the computer; he will avoid physical activity and become less social, hoping to spend more time on the computer. Setting a limit of a half hour to an hour of computer time per day is a good way to curb addiction while stressing the importance of other social and physical activities. Q2.
