During World War II, the development of Fascism and the abuse of power changed the lives of millions. Some dictators abused their power by focusing on gaining power and respect for their country rather than keeping their citizens safe and doing what is right. Mussolini often abused his power by bullying his citizens to make them believe he was always right. Mussolini was mistreated as a child which later affected his adulthood. He was the founder of Fascism and was the dictator of Italy in the 1900’s. He befriended Adolf Hitler and allied forces with Germany during World War II. Mussolini, the founder of fascism, experienced a difficult childhood which led him to ruling Italy as a dictator, engaging in violence, and betraying his friends and family.
Having had a rough childhood, Benito Mussolini grew up to be an incredibly pretentious dictator. Benito Mussolini was born into a poor family, and he was the first of three children born to Rosa Maltoni and Alesandro Mussolini (“Benito Mussolini”). Mussolini’s parents decided to name him after the 19th century Mexican liberator Benito Juarez (“Benito Mussolini”). While he was a young child he often began fights with other children. In 1919, Mussolini and his followers formed a group called the Fasci, an army of black shirted war veterans. Mussolini was the leader of the Fasci, and he supplied them with weapons and inspiration. When he was thirty-nine years old, he became the youngest prime minister of Italy, and soon he would oversee the whole of Italy. When Mussolini obtained power over Italy, he founded a form of government called Fascism. He believed he was always right, and he refused to take advice or criticism from anyone else (“Benito Mussolini”). Many people thought he was a savior, and they believed he would solve all their problems (Donald Hook,
