In 1742, Ben Franklin was fed up with the cold Pennsylvania winters; he wanted a better solution to traditional fireplaces. He was freezing so he wanted to make a new invention. As a result, he invented a fireplace that was more effective at heating a room than a normal fireplace was. It was later called the Franklin Stove. The Franklin Stove is a metal lined fireplace that is better than a standard fireplace because it produces much less smoke and uses much less fuel than traditional fireplaces do (B). Also, it has rear baffles for improved airflow and it radiates heat in all directions, instead of a standard fireplace, which only heats one section of a room (D). It directs the heat from a fireplace to the entire room. This was a very useful invention that helped a lot of people.
