Prohibited Conduct 4.18; is the policy that the Benton School District has against the possession, selling, and distributing, or a student being under the influence of an alcoholic beverage, any illegal drug, unauthorized inhalants, or the inappropriate use or sharing of prescription or over the counter drugs, or other intoxicants, or anything represented to be a drug (Benton School District, 2016).
Drugs and Alcohol 4.24; is the policy the school district has against the drug and alcohol. The policy states that students must be free from the effects of alcohol and drugs. Egoism is individualistic consequentialism, but utilitarianism is universalistic consequentialism (Burgess-Jackson, 2013). When looking at ethical egoism, you can see that the students who wish to use drugs act in self-interest, but all the other persons involved such as the teachers, administration, some parents, and non-drug using students, do not. Utilitarianism seeks the greatest happiness for the entire group ((Williams & Arrigo, 2012). These school policies can be considered utilitarianism since they maximize the good consequences of the entire student population at school. The policies do not produce happiness for all people involved, but it does produce happiness for most people involved. So, when looking at the utilitarianism theory, it does produce happiness for the greatest number of people involved.
