Beowulf is a story about a hero and follows him through three different clashes with foes at different stages in his life. In the first battle he is young and fights a monster known as Grendel who keeps terrorizing the Danes. In the second battle he is still in his youth and he must kill the mother of Grendel, she is seeking revenge for the death of her son. In his last battle he is much older and he is now the king of Geatland and he makes himself fight a dragon that has been harassing the people. Beowulf is the epitome of an epic hero and the audience can gather this from the characteristics he displays throughout his feats. Beowulf’s most notable quality in this epic poem was his bravery.
