Beowulf’s battle with Grendel shows true courage. Beowulf then “took off the helmet and handed the patterned sword”. (672-673)He was completely unarmed as described in the lines previous.
Epically Epic Heroes In the oldest written Epic Poem, Beowulf, the main character is an epic hero. Beowulf, who came from great distances to defeat a supernatural being, shows many signs of what exactly a hero embodies. Today’s modern society has an epic hero, JJ Watt, who plays for the Houston Texans football team. Both him and Beowulf show signs for what is an epic hero for today’s society.
Beowulf’s’ courageousness can be shown through the way he approaches dangerous roles. He chooses to take on the roles himself and does not feel intimidated by his opponents. When it came time for Beowulf to fight Grendel, he vowed to succeed in killing him or die trying. Katniss Everdeen also shows courageous behavior. When her sister Prim was chosen for the annual reaping, Katniss took her sisters place in the Hunger Games because she did not want her sister to die.
Alexander Hamilton once said, “There is a certain Enthusiasm in liberty that makes Human nature rise above itself, in acts of bravery and heroism.” Beowulf is an epic poem in which the main character Beowulf did acts of service, but he fought for those who couldn’t fight. The overall theme of good versus evil in Beowulf had Beowulf dealing with challenges that no ordinary man would be able to handle unless they were a true epic hero. Throughout the poem Beowulf proves to be an epic hero by his strength, bravery, and sacrifice.
Beowulf comes from a well respected family. His dad, the King of the Geats, allows Beowulf to step up as a hero and prove himself. He led his hero’s journey by conquering many, as well as keeping his reputation of coming out on top when it came to fighting battles. He shows many hero-like characteristics throughout the book such as bravery, courage, honor, and leadership which students and teachers alike still consider honorable in today’s day and age. Being a hero requires one to conquer many obstacles.
Beowulf is a tale of a Epic Hero that protects his people from a monster named Grendel. In modern day times, Grendel's appetite for murder is shared with Pedro Rodrigues Filho. Pedro’s hunger for killing deminstaights it's not just a fictional monster that kills but real people in a real world. An Anglo-Saxon hero, a brave, courageous warrior, fearless enough to fight and risk one’s own life for others, represented by the character Beowulf in the epic poem Beowulf. Described as, “Follower and the strongest of the Geats--greater and stronger than anyone anywhere in this world…”(110-111). The Geats treat Beowulf with great respect and admiration due to his promise to protect them from the danger that oppresses
"I am ripper, tearer, slasher, gauger. I am the teeth in the darkness, the talons in the night. Mine is strength, lust and power. I am Beowulf. "This is how Beowulf speaks.
Today is a time to mourn the loss of the Geats of Geatland’s Great King, Beowulf, son of Ecgtheow who lost his life protecting the life of his fellow Geats. The breaker of rings was the bravest warrior in the land and his accomplishments will never be forgotten. Many looked up to Beowulf as a god, and had high expectations of him, but the reality was that he was just like any person, flawed. Beowulf gives into temptation and he doesn't always come out victorious in all his battles. That is what made Beowulf different out of everyone, he fought fair fights that tested his limits to points he never knew he could reach
My personal hero is my dad, and like most people’s father he has guided me to make the correct choices in life, just like how Beowulf guides his soldiers into battle. I trust my father to guide me in the right direction because of how selfless he is. Sizing up to someone with a resume as impressive as Beowulf’s is no easy task, but my dad comes closer than most. While my father, as amazing as he is, is no astounding hero from Geatland, he does put a lot of effort into leading and caring for the great kingdom that is our family. And for that reason, I believe my father is so great that he can and should be held to the same standards as Beowulf.
“A hero is someone who steps up when everyone else backs down”. This quote is arguably true due to the definition of the word being “a person who is admired or idealized for courage, outstanding achievements, or noble qualities”. By this definition and quote a hero can be anyone who rise to the occasion when others are too fearful to do so. One thing that both the quote and definition share is that they mention or allude to the trait of courage. Although courage is a trait that everyone can possess what sets the heroes apart from the others is the amount or to what degree they possess the courage.
In the poem Beowulf, courage is an understatement to the amount of it noticed versus the amount unnoticed. Courage is the solid foundation of the warrior philosophy, the warrior’s heart, and warrior’s mind, similar to how concrete and steel bars are the foundations to a building, without it, it would all crumble. Courage is a trait, not a description to someone or something, it is a gift that not many people can yield within themselves, and Beowulf is the epitome of courage. He is bold and unnerving, his attitude and approach to everything is very transient, unafraid of death and God willing, Beowulf takes every challenge gallantly, expanding his prestigious actions around the lands. The true courage and thought process of such a man is rare, unheard of in any time
Once upon a time, there was a marvelous warrior that was a hero to so many and king to some. In the story of Beowulf, the hero, Beowulf, must follow and go through the hero’s journey. The hero’s journey has twelve stages, or three acts. The stages go in the order: 1) The Call to Adventure, 2) Assistance, 3) Departure, 4) Trials, 5) Approach to the Inmost Cave, 6) Crisis, 7) Treasure, 8) Result, 9) Return, 10) New Life, 11) Resolution, and 12) Status Quo (Winkler). Since Beowulf is facing three different monsters, there is not only the story’s significant journey, but also multiple inside it.
One of the hero’s is Beowulf. As a hero Beowulf has numerous reasons for being considered as such. He is strong, brave, and an excellent leader. By massacring monsters of all kinds of the monsters of the sea to the slime monster Grendel Beowulf shows his heroic qualities. Another hero is Achilles; he was devastated by the loss of his friend Patroclus.
When one hears the word hero many think of a man in tights with a cape who possess powers that he uses for the greater good, but not all heroes wear capes. In the epic poem Beowulf, author unknown, the main character, a man who the work is named after, shows heroic characteristics as he battles monsters that threaten the safety of the people. Beowulf exemplifies himself as a hero throughout the story by displaying heroic characteristics such as: bravery, honor, and loyalty. One example of how Beowulf is a hero is that he is brave.
