An epic hero is a character that possesses bravery, strength, courage, and a desire to achieve immortality through heroic actions. In the book Beowulf, there was an epic hero in a village in Denmark, Beowulf, who had to overcome several challenges to be considered a hero. Beowulf was a man from Geat land who reflected both the pagan and Christian traditions, and traveled to Denmark to save the village people for the king, Hrothgar, after the village was attacked during an evening of celebration at the Herot hall. After this incident, Beowulf was just starting his journey. Beowulf’s first challenge was trying to find the monster who had started attacking the village and killing the people. By hanging Grendals arm in the halls of Herot, Beowulf upset Grendals mother and she started to kill in the village for revenge of them killing her son. So, Beowulf went to the lake to defeat Grendal mother. “I shall shape glory with hrunthing, or death will hurry me from this earth!” (53) were his last words before he leaps into the lake. Grendals mother fought him and fought him, and carried him to her home. Grendal tried to free his weapon, but failed.
