During the beginning of time, there was an ongoing battle between good and evil. John Milton gave man a meaning for this battle in his epic “Paradise Lost” explaining Lucifer’s fall and war with God. In book one it says, “Nor had they yet among sons of Eve got them new names, til wand’ring o’er the earth through God’s high suff’rance for the trial of man”.(Milton, line 364) Earth was the battlefield and humans were used to continue the war. Few literary works explain their battle between good versus evil better than the epic Beowulf. In the Anglo Saxon poem Beowulf, the battle between good versus evil explains Beowulf’s entire life showing that though the struggle may be different, good will always overcome evil.
