William Shakespeare’s “Julius Caesar” is a tragedy that is surrounded by betrayal. Brutus is betrayer, even though his actions were well intentioned. All Brutus wanted to do was support his country and improve it. Brutus stabbed Caesar which overpowers his image of doing good. Some people may view Brutus as a patriot because of his desire to better Rome, however, his actions were unjust. When the conspirators wanted to kill Antony along with Caesar, Brutus convinced everyone that killing Antony would make them appear cruel. Even though Antony was spared, Brutus is still cruel for stabbing and killing Caesar. After Caesar dies, Brutus tells Antony: “You shall not in your funeral speech blame us”(3.1.259-60).
