Sanaya Ramos May 21,2017 English Honors Is Brutus an Honorable Man? Honor is a word that can have different context that varies from a person's point of view. Someone's definition of honor can be someone who fights for something or someone who is in some way a hero. A definition for honor can even simply be someone who does something good. My definition is a combination of those things. An honorable person is someone who sacrifices within him or herself for the betterment of something or someone else. Some actions or words can be easily categorized as “honorable” or “dishonorable” but there are just some things that can go both ways and are a “double edged sword”. An example of this double edged sword is the infamous character Brutus from the play Julius Caesar. Brutus, being the noble Roman he thinks he is, kills Caesar because of his unrelenting fear that if given too much power, Julius Caesar will become a tyrant. …show more content…

Brutus is known for being the face of the conspirators that conspires to kill Caesar. This is where people start to have different opinions on what kind of person Brutus was. Some people say that he is a man of honor because of his claim of killing Caesar for the betterment of Rome. Marc Antony refers to Brutus as the “ most noble Roman” in his funeral speech for Julius Caesar. It is proven throughout the duration of the play that Brutus had loved Caesar but the love for Rome is more consistent and is the source of Brutus’ motivation. Others think Brutus is a dishonorable and evil man because of his involvement in Julius Caesar’s death. But if you try to understand why Brutus did it, you can decide for yourself as to what kind of man Brutus is, one of honor for his people and his country or one of greed for wealth and
