In the story “The Tempest” written by William Shakespeare, betrayal is a common theme throughout the story. Betrayal is apart of human nature it involves so many emotions that make individuals want to take revenge. We see this starting off with Antonio, he says “Let’s all sink wi’th th’ king” (page 514, 55). Antonio is showing that he doesn’t have any respect for his brother and wants him to die. Antonio was jealous that Prospero was the duke and decided to take his throne and property. Therefor Antonio exiled Prospero, the duke of Milan, not knowing that Prospero would land on a small island. Antonio betrayed Prospero because of his jealousy that drove him to take matters in his own hands, leading to his brothers exilement. While on the island Prospero met a creature named Caliban and an airy spirit named Ariel. Prospero made both of them his servants and and taught them his language. All was well …show more content…

Caliban says “ Thou shalt be lord of it, and I’ll serve thee” (page 560, 53) this is showing that he will serve Stephano and forget about his master Prospero. While all three are drunk they are all planning to come up with a plan to kill Prospero. Stephano says “ Monster, I will kill this man. His daughter and I will be King and Queen-save our Graces!-And Trinculo and thyself shall be viceroys” (page 562, 100) This shows how badly the three men want to kill so they can be viceroys and live luxurious lives. At the end of the story Prospero gathered all the people who betrayed him and said “ I’ll promise you calm seas, auspicious gales and sail so expeditions that shall catch your royal fleet far off.” (page 596, 315) he is forgiving all of them and saying that they can all go home safely. Prospero then sets free Ariel and Caliban by saying “ Bravely, my diligence. Thou shall be free” (page 594,
