My character’s name is Betty Rizzo and she is a “Pink Lady” in the musical Grease. She is a fiery and misunderstood teenage girl and I believe she is the victim of the show rather than the villain. She is constantly being judged by her classmates and by the audience on her decisions and on her “relationship status”. She is very impulsive and spontaneous and acts as if she could not care about anyone’s opinion or their personal thoughts on her. She does not feel ready to be a parent or face her classmates with the unanticipated news. The new love she has for Kenickie is something she has not truly experienced before, making her scared of their new relationship. Throughout the show, she has to make difficult decisions and face her fears. One of these choices include her having to allow Kenickie back into her life or continue to push him away, as her fear grows about being pregnant and being judged. She also must make the decision to face the world about her future and relationships or just keep to herself like she always has. She typically acts quickly on these choices and sometimes, she was not given a choice and had to continue with what had been decided. One example of this is when her best friend, Marty, accidentally reveals Rizzo’s pregnancy. Her attitude to most of the tough options is to analyze and decide quickly, typically acting is if she could not care either way. Rizzo typically does not get what she wants but when she wants something really badly, she will fight for it as hard as she can.
The song that best describes her daily emotions and decisions is There Are Worse Things I Could Do and this is a transition song because, she shows the audience her true vulnerability and fears. This song also reveals why she always acts tough and mean, which is really caused by her inner pain and fears. It shows the audience her sadness
