Despite the ongoing efforts of The Adam Walsh Act alongside other child safety acts as well, children in the United States are still perishing from sexual and physical abuse each day. According to data from the National Child Abuse and Neglect Data System (NCANDS), “49 States reported a total of 1,585 fatalities. Based on these data, a nationally estimated 1,670 children died from abuse or neglect in FFY 2015, which is 5.7 percent more than in 2011. This translates to a rate of 2.25 children per 100,000 children in the general population and an average of nearly five children dying every day from abuse or neglect”.(www.childwarefare.gov) Human Rights Watch shares that “the real risks that children face are quite different: government statistics indicate that most sexual abuse of children are committed by family members or trusted authority figures, and by someone who has not previously been convicted of a sex offense.
Before coming into this class, I watched television without having an open mind on all the different aspects that go into television making. Now every time I watch television, my mind is aware of all the different aspects. Some of the aspects that I analyze while watching television are the polysemy, structure and visual sound and style of a program. The program that I viewed on my television is Beyond Scared Straight, season 9 episode 9, channel 118 and airdate and time is 8/20/15 at 9pm. The purpose of the show Beyond Scared Straight is to transform the lives of young juvenile delinquents.
At one extreme, the children are obviously in trouble. You witness behaviour that is extremely rebellious or “bad”. These are the delinquents I deal with. They act in such a way as to confirm to the world their flaws and imperfections. These people are a constant menace to society and are forever in trouble with the law.
Most of these offenders are now adults and have spent most of their life in the same place. These people could have went to college and become something, like a doctor, chef, and so much more, but instead they were left sitting in a cell. These children are in the midst of still growing and learning. They need to learn from their mistakes not just sit on them their whole life. The Campaign for the Fair Sentencing of Youth states that more than eighty percent of juveniles serving life have had a past that reflected their choices.

There are thousands of child soldiers in the world today. These children are stripped from their homes and sent to fight with people twice their age. Many haven’t even had their 11th birthday yet. Although some people say that child soldiers should not be granted amnesty, evidence shows that these children do deserve amnesty, except in cases when the former soldiers show violent behavior after war because children are forced to commit acts of violence and are force addicted to illegal substances so they won’t want to leave.
The book, Bad Feminist, written by Roxane Gay, is a collection of essays that argues about many topics of feminism and typical problems in today’s society. “What We Hunger For," is one of her personal essays. Gay reveals to her reader the difficult journey she had to endure as a teen, while also taking her reader through the cultural experiences that many girls endure but never talk about. She later explores The Hunger Games trilogy and its heroine Katniss Everdeen to emphasize the cathartic and sobering stories in young adult literature. Gay claims that through the use of young adult literature and movies that speak of true experiences and accomplishments, the dark past young adult endure can be unlock and resolved.

When someone who commits a crime is determined to be mentally inadequate to be held accountable for the crimes they have committed, there are things that we do to charge them, but in a lesser way because of their mental capacity. Which begs the question, why are we allowing children to be sentenced to life, when their brains aren’t fully developed? When a child commits a crime we look over that, and stop seeing them as children. We shouldn’t sentence children to a life in prison when their brains are not only underdeveloped, but also missing a good portion of gray matter.

Children who commit violent crimes should not be tried as adults, because proper educational services are typically not affordable, children are more susceptible to harming themselves
The trauma of the children often times have been very severe, which may lead them to engage in activities that are not acceptable, such as running away, fighting, or committing a crime. If a child commits a crime they are obligated to be reported it to the police or probation officer if they were referred to Lutherbrook by a court. Depending on the severity of the crime they may appear before a judge and get a couple of days in lockup. The center itself does not implement severe punishment because their value system is based on trust and safety. If the child runs away rather than punishing him/her they will come up with ideas so the child stops running away.
I believe the foster care system should be changed for the better of the foster child. The system as many foster kids will say is messed up, and in fact I totally agree. The child feels that if he/she spoke up about what was going on in their “home” whether it 's abuse or other reasons they will be located right back into another home where this can just possibly happen again. The last thing any of these children is abuse and more relocation. Most of these kids just strive to be happy and in a forever home that they want to live in.
Also that being in prison is already punishment enough. I believe it may be harsh, but not harsh enough to banish those monsters Can we really take any as parents? They are still criminals who broke the law, which in this context means that the choices they are going to make will not be to help keep order but to help to bend it when it pleases
